A pair of ranked Dallas Center-Grimes basketball teams took care of Pella Christian last night on the Eagles’ home floor, with the Mustang girls winning 64-36 and the boys prevailing 66-50 in a doubleheader heard live on 92.1 KRLS.

The shorthanded PC girls hung tough for two-and-a-half quarters, trailing just 29-21 at halftime and cutting the deficit to six early in the third.  DCG outscored the Eagles 35-13 the rest of the way to win comfortably, but Pella Christian coach Brad Engbers was proud of the steps his team made.

“We were in this thing at halftime, but for some reason our third quarters have not been good for us lately.  Those guys play with such intensity, and they can put points on the board in a hurry when you turn the ball over.  Overall, we knew we were playing a good team tonight and it showed.”

Allison Van Gorp led Pella Christian with 21 points and six rebounds and Karlie Anderson drilled three three-pointers to finish with 9.  The Eagles fall to 8-9 on the season and 3-8 in the Little Hawkeye Conference.

The Dallas Center-Grimes boys used lightning quick guard play and trapping defensive pressure to build a 43-26 halftime lead in the nightcap.  While the Eagles played even in the second half, the margin never got to single digits and the Mustangs cruised to victory.

Levi Schelhaas and Luke Mulder scored 12 and 11 points, respectively, to lead Pella Christian, while Eric Mulder’s 11 rebounds were a game high for either team.  The Eagles drop to 9-9 on the season and 5-6 in the LHC.  Up next for both teams is a trip to Newton for a doubleheader Friday night.
