The Norwalk basketball teams got back on the right track Tuesday evening with a sweep of Newton, as aired on KNIA3. The Warriors picked up decisive victories in each contest, with a 41-26 win in the girls game and a 61-43 win in the boys game.
Norwalk had another slow start to the first quarter, but built up an 11-4 advantage after the period. The Warriors gave up just seven points in the entire first half, and held a 23-7 halftime lead. The Cardinals made a late surge in the fourth, but Norwalk secured the victory as time ran down. Senior Emma Soukup says that the Warriors were able to maintain control of their style of play.
Jocelyn Bice scored 15 points to lead the way, while Bren Moritz added 12. Norwalk improves to 11-7 overall and 7-3 in Little Hawkeye Conference play.
The Norwalk boys built up an 11-6 advantage after one, but quickly raced out to a 30-18 halftime lead. Aside from the first few minutes, it was a wire-to-wire win for the Warriors, and the game was never in doubt. Several reserves began entering the game near the end of the third quarter, and the teams largely traded buckets all the way through the end. Senior Cole Tunender says it was important for the team to get back on their feet after a tough loss as the end of the regular season draws near.
Grant Larson led the Warriors with 14 points. Norwalk improves to 11-5 overall and 7-4 in conference play. Both teams return to action Friday at Grinnell, with the broadcast airing on KNIA3.
