The Iowa High School Speech Association’s state contests were held Saturday, with many area schools competing. Pleasantville had three events advance to this contest. The Musical Theatre group received a Division II rating, the short film titled “Afternoon Cookout” received a 1-2-2 rating, and the senior improv team received straight 1’s.

This year’s large group all-state festival has been cancelled, but those honors will still be acknowledged. Individual speech will soon begin. Local schools will compete in Marshalltown for the district contest, with the state contest taking place in Grinnell.
