pleasantville-3

Pleasantville’s basketball teams came up empty in heartbreaking fashion as the girls lost in overtime 52-49 and the boys lost 53-52 as heard on the KNIA3 stream; the Trojans’ wrestling team will also begin regional dual action tonight as they take on Bedford-Lenox at Logan-Magnolia.

The Trojans’ girls lost a back-and-forth game that went all the way down to the final buzzer. After trailing by six to start the fourth quarter, Pleasantville fought back and tied the game at 44 to force overtime. After ACGC’s Sage O’Brien knocked down the go-ahead three, Pleasantville got an opportunity to extend the game, but Faith Vanderhart’s three-pointer at the buzzer bounced off the back of the rim. Malorie McKinney led the Trojans in scoring as she finished with 18 points. Adi Adreon was second with 12.

The Trojans’ boys lost a wild game that also went down to the final buzzer. Pleasantville once held a 12-point lead after one quarter, but ACGC fought back to take the lead until Junior Taylon Mount knocked down a game-tying three. With 2.3 left and the game tied at 52, the Trojans turned the ball over and Mount fouled ACGC’s Miles Kading on a half-court shot as the buzzer sounded. Kading knocked down a free throw to seal the deal. Mason Scheve led the way with 18 points for Pleasantville, while Colby Sandohldt had 11 in the loss.

Both teams will be back in action tonight for another West Central Conference doubleheader at Van Meter. The doubleheader begins with the girls’ game tipping off at 6:15 PM.

Pleasantville’s wrestling team will have their first regional dual meet as they travel to Logan-Magnolia for a matchup with Bedford-Lenox. The Trojans are coming off winning their team sectional at Colfax-Mingo over tough opponents like Southeast Warren and Martensdale-St. Mary’s. The Trojans will also have five wrestlers competing in district competition this week.

Action will begin at Logan-Magnolia High School between the two teams at 6:00 PM.
