In one of the best postseason tournament finishes in school history, Pella placed 2nd in Class 3A District 5 and is sending two wrestlers to the state meet this week in Des Moines.
Kody Huisman was the district meet champion among heavyweights, dominating his way to the top of the podium and a second straight appearance at Wells Fargo Arena. Ryan Van Donselaar needed to win his wrestle back after falling in the 160-pound division finals round by pin fall, but Ryan won his 2nd place match when he was up 11-0 before his opponent was disqualified.
Pella earned 3rd place finishes from Damion Clark (113), Ryan Hancock (126), T.R. Putz (132), Jackson Van Kley (145), Quinn Rhamy (152), and Christian Lubben (195). Clark, Hancock, Van Kley, and Rhamy all lost in the 2nd place match, while the rest did not get a wrestle back as their opponent fell in the finals, granting them 2nd place and the bid to the state meet.
The 2021 IHSAA State Wrestling Meet begins Thursday at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines.
