With education funding being considered in the Iowa Legislature, one of the goals for State Senator Julian Garrett is to help out the rural Iowa school districts with transportation funding compared with the more densely populated areas. Senator Garrett tells KNIA News property taxes should be equalized as rural districts will pay more.

“It doesn’t make a difference what district you live in. Rural districts obviously have higher transportation costs per student. We recognize that, and we are taking state funding to help equalize that so that the education part of the spending is equalized on a per student basis.”
