Education funding for the upcoming budget is still being considered by the Iowa Legislature, with the Iowa Senate passing a bill and continuing negotiations with the Iowa House to get a deal done. State Senator Julian Garrett tells KNIA News he cites a national study that ranked Iowa first in the nation to best withstand the economic impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, and that will have a big factor in what he decides to vote on.

“I think we are being responsible and doing the best we can do considering the circumstances. We have a lot of demands for other parts of the budget, healthcare for low-income people, public safety, courts, prisons, they all want more money. We just have to balance that out, and I think we are doing a responsible job.”
