The Norwalk girls basketball team begins the postseason this evening, playing host to Des Moines Hoover in the Class 4A Region 3 quarterfinals. The 11-10 Warriors enter the postseason needing just one win to clinch the program’s first winning season since 2010-2011. In order to do it, they’ll need to beat a Huskies team that is just 2-12 overall and is ranked near the bottom of Class 4A in most statistical categories.
It’ll be a great opportunity for Norwalk to return to their winning ways after losing its final three regular season games, including four of the last five. Hoover has lost four straight entering the contest, with the team’s only two wins coming against Des Moines East. These rare opponents are meeting for the first time since 2012, which was a Huskies victory.
It’s likely the final home game for Norwalk. Jon Mohwinkle and Steve Wermerskirchen will call the action on 94.3 KNIA, with pregame coverage beginning at 6:30 p.m. Opening tipoff at Norwalk High School is scheduled for 7:00. Tonight’s winner heads to Creston Saturday for the regional semifinals.
