The Indianola City Council held their state-mandated public hearing on the maximum property tax dollars for FY2022 at their meeting Tuesday. City Manager Ryan Waller tells KNIA News property taxes will remain the same as last year despite all the projects going on in the city due to the increased growth.
“We’ve added $45 million in valuations, so we’ve grown by $45 million. The more value we have in the community, the more growth that we have, the less each property gets taxed so that rate is going down. Now we do have a second part of the lvy and that is our debt service levy, and that will be about $1.40. So our total overall property tax rate will remain the same at $13.63 per $1,000 of assessed value.”
Waller also said Indianola’s tax levy is lower than many other comparable cities in the area.
