Pleasantville’s boys basketball team’s season came to an end Thursday at Des Moines Christian, and Coach Tom Wilkins was straightforward in his team’s performance.
Wilkins, who returned to coaching after a five-year hiatus, coached the Trojans to an 8-15 record, including a playoff win Monday against Colfax-Mingo. Unfortunately, Wilkins’ team couldn’t stop the Lions as Des Moines Christian hurt Pleasantville with 28 points in the paint in the first half, and then turned around and knocked down eight three-pointers in the second half. Wilkins states that the game unraveled in the third quarter.
“My manager said they scored 28 of their 34 points in the paint. We made an effort at halftime to cut off their high post. They were going high post and low post on us. We shut that down in the second half, but then they knocked down eight three’s in the second half and it started during that third quarter.”
Wilkins also states that Des Moines Christian did a good job putting 6’7” Ben Loverude on Mason Scheve, as he held him to just five points after Scheve dropped 35 on the Lions January 26.
