State legislators debated a bill Tuesday that would reduce Iowa’s absentee voting window, among other measures related to voting. State Senator Amy Sinclair tells KNIA/KRLS News that she does not believe votes would be suppressed if this bill is signed into law.

“I don’t imagine that whatever bill that ultimately gets passed will in any way suppress a vote, especially with the addition of folks in hospitals being able to get absentee ballots and folks having the option of a drop box. Another thing I think this does is eliminate ballot harvesting. That’s an additional protection for making sure the people who are voting are the people who they say they are, and we don’t open that up for fraud.”

Sinclair represents much of Marion County in State Senate District 14.
