The Indianola boys basketball team’s season came to a close in the substate semifinal contest at Ankeny Centennial Friday evening, and they will have to replace a senior class that were tops among three pointers and assists. Senior guard CJ Kuehl was tied for second in class 4A in assists per game at 5.7, just 0.1 off of leading the class, while the other senior rotation player in Caden Rehmeier was the team leader in three-point buckets with 63 on the season, and shot 47% from long range, good enough for 14th in class 4A. Indians head coach Brett Watson tells KNIA Sports it won’t just be the production on the court that is lost from the senior class, but the contributions of those seniors that weren’t rotation players that can’t be easily replicated.
“I know officials don’t like it, but I love when they come up to me and tell me to get my guys to sit down. Just the energy they bring, You see it during games, but we get to see it during practice. Those seniors are the ones that set the tone, their leadership and ability to get guys going, and seeing guys being satisfied with their role, it was a big part of our success this year.”
The Indians went 16-7 on the season.
