The Central women’s basketball team dominated Luther on Senior Night in Kuyper Gymnasium, picking up an 87-55 victory, as aired on KRLS. The Dutch were a little slow out of the gate, and the score was tied at 14 after one. Central was able to pick up the pace and control the tempo in the second quarter, pulling away for a 40-33 halftime lead.

The Dutch kept the pedal to the metal, and held the Norse to just 11 third quarter points. Central hardly slowed down and continued their sharp shooting on their way to the victory.

Central had four players in double figures, led by Maci Gambell’s 26 points. Kelsea Hurley added 13, while Carson Fisk and Sami Craig each had 10. Central improves to 5-2 both overall and in conference play, and returns to action Monday at Coe for the regular season finale. The winner of that game will finish no worse than third place in the conference.

The Central softball team also opened its season Saturday in Jacksonville, IL, dropping two contests heard on 92.1 KRLS and KRLS3. The Dutch fell behind early in a 5-2 neutral site setback to DePauw. Then Central took on hosting Illinois College in the nightcap. A back and forth game went into extra innings tied at 4, but the Dutch were held off the board in the eighth inning in an 8-4 loss.

Central begins its season 0-2 overall, and returns to action Saturday in St. Ann, MO for a date with Washington University and another tilt against DePauw.
