Melcher-Dallas’ boys’ basketball team did finish with a losing record in 2020-21, but they finished above .500 in the Bluegrass Conference for the third time in four years.
The Saints’ did get off to a slow start to the 2020-21 season, but they picked up steam after finishing fourth in the Bluegrass Conference Tournament. Melcher-Dallas won their final four conference games of the season with victories over Tri-County, Diagonal, Moulton-Udell, and Orient-Macksburg. The Saints also had a key non-conference win over Wayne. Coach Jim Wells tells KNIA Sports his thoughts on the season.
“Well, I think you always want them to do better than how they ended the season. I thought we played some really good games and we played some that we should have won. We played good for a half or three quarters but we didn’t play that fourth quarter hard and I can think of a couple of games right off the bat like against Tri-County or Moravia, but that happens. People get in foul trouble and have to sit out.”
Melcher-Dallas finished 9-10 on the season with a first-round playoff loss at North Mahaska.
