Pella boys basketball teams have a tradition among being the best at three point shooting in Iowa, and 2020-21 has been no exception.

The Dutch rank as the top team in Class 3A in deep shots made at just under 11 per game and their 39 percent is also the best mark in the state. While Pella knew that Grant Nelson — whose 79 made three-pointers is best in 3A, Karl Miller, who rates 3rd in that category, were going to be the driving force of their high-octane offense, there was less certainty about a newcomer from Newton and how he would fit into an already stacked lineup.

Noah Allen has put those doubts to rest, and has been one of–if not the best “sixth man” in the state, averaging 12 points per game since joining the rotation in January. Allen’s 2.6 three pointers made per contest is 11th best among 3A athletes and his 43.2% conversion rate is 12th highest with those who have at least 50 attempts.

Noah says he’s been embraced by the school community since joining the campus in August and his teammates as they make a run at Iowa’s top prize.

Allen had a connection prior to wearing green and white, as he and fellow Junior Parker Elder played competitively together for several seasons prior to combining forces on the No. 2 team in Class 3A at Pella High School in AAU.

The Dutch open the school’s 18th-ever appearance at the state tournament on Tuesday, March 9th at 8 p.m. against Monticello. Stay tuned to 92.1 KRLS for continuing coverage.
