Construction on a new highlight at the Pella Historical Society and Museums is nearing the finish line, and later this spring, residents and visitors alike will be able to learn more about the life of one of the most famous lawmen of the Old West.

Pella Historical Society Assistant Director Jessi Vos says The Wyatt Earp Experience will open in May.

“What’s always been The Boyhood Home of Wyatt Earp is now going to be a new experience both inside and out,” she says. “Obviously all of the white paint from the exterior is gone, we’re currently replacing windows, doing plaster on the inside, and we’re going to be painting soon, and this is setting the stage for the new exhibit that will be going in this April.”

From there, Vos says they expect to be open around Tulip Time, and she’s excited for the opportunity for all who visit the exhibit to learn more about Earp and his time in Pella.

“It’ll be very interactive with both a audio component and visual components as well,” she says. “We can not wait to share this story — so many people don’t realize that Wyatt Earp lived here in our town for a long time actually, and maybe it was Pella that sort of made him into who he was.”

The Wyatt Earp Experience project is the last part of the extensive Forging our Future Campaign, first launched in March in 2018 with the aim to transform Pella Historical Society and efforts in preserving and sharing the history of the community.
