On the one-year anniversary of the building being destroyed by a fire, the Pleasantville Christian Church will hold a groundbreaking and time capsule reveal on Tuesday. Church Board Chair Lois Turnage says the time capsule was salvaged during the demolition of what was left of the building, and that no one knew it was there before it was found.

“The demolition crew rescued the cornerstone, which was placed there in 1900 when the original church was constructed. The foreman said that there may be a time capsule in there, that was done quite frequently. We had no idea if there would be one or not, and sure enough, they pulled that cornerstone out very carefully, and there was a square cut out in the limestone. Inside was a lead box, about the size of an old-time cigar box.”

A ceremony will be held Tuesday, March 30th at 2:00 p.m. at the site of the church, 302 W. Dallas Street in Pleasantville. All are invited.
