The Indianola girls track and field squad faced off against some of the top competition in the state at Waukee Tuesday evening, fielding several top finishes in the distance runs. Emily Naughton placed first in both the 800m and 1500m, winning by nearly nine seconds in the 800 and over five seconds in the 1500m as the Indians scored 17 points overall to tie for 8th. Head coach Kim Arndt tells KNIA News this season has high expectations.

“I’m excited for this season, we have a good part of our group back. We lost some valuable seniors as far as leadership and talent, and that won’t be easy to replace. But I think the kids seem excited to get back at it. I’m excited, and we’ll go out there and see what we can do.”

Norwalk top finishers included Claire Farrell placing first in the 100m, 200m, and 400m dash, Marin Randall placed 4th in the long jump, and the 4x400m relay team also placed 4th, while Norwalk as a team finished in sixth with 18 points.

The Indians will next compete Thursday at Ankeny, while the Warriors next travel to Urbandale on Tuesday.
