The Simpson College Speech and Debate team recently placed first in the Pi Kappa Delta National Debate Team Sweepstakes Championship, with the program winning their fourth championship in six years. Coach Spencer Waugh tells KNIA News Simpson is nationally renowned for their speech and debate program, and is a big draw for the community.

“If you are a student involved in speech and debate at the high school level and competing at the national tournament, most of them have heard of Simpson College. So we have quite a bit of national name recognition in the high school circuit which makes it easier to recruit students. WE have students on our speech and debate team from all over the country. This year we have students from Texas, from Utah, from Missouri and Minnesota, all over the place to come here to compete.”
