Pella made the long trip to Cedar Rapids to play at Mount Mercy College in the Cedar Rapids Washington boys soccer invitational on Saturday, earning a split in their two matches.
The No. 5 in 2A Dutch defeated Mount Vernon 3-0 and fell to No. 1 Xavier 1-0.
Pella scored 2 goals in the first half, and added another in the second against the Mustangs. Three different Dutch found the back of the net, with Austin Bone, Josh Warner, and Isaac Semini all scoring.
Stats:
Bone — 30″ (assisted by Warner)
Warner — 33″ (assisted by Apostolopoulos)
Semini — 68″
In the afternoon match up, Pella played top-ranked Xavier. Head Coach Mark Solomon says the Dutch possessed for the majority of the first half, and created a few opportunities to score on the Saints, but couldn’t break through. He says Xavier found some space just before the halftime whistle and made an excellent shot that beat Pella GK Mason Holland for the only goal of the contest .
Pella (3-2 overall) next plays at Norwalk on Tuesday.
