The Pella boys and girls soccer teams had a successful day against strong competition Saturday, with the teams sweeping their combined three matches.

No. 10 in 2A Pella edged No. 6 in 1A Waterloo Columbus at the first boys soccer match at Pella High School’s stadium this spring. The Dutch and Sailors played to a halftime 0-0 draw and a 1-1 tie after regulation, and two overtimes did not settle the score. Pella outscored Columbus 4-2 in the penalty kicks to earn the win. Isaac Semini scored his 10th goal in the first eight games as Pella improves to 6-2.

In ADM, the Lady Dutch scored late in both contests to defeat a pair of Tigers, as Pella knocked off the hosts 3-2 and Gilbert 2-1. Macy Schulz scored three goals over the two matches, including the two tallies against Gilbert, while the Warner sisters Abby and Mia were able to score two first-half goals against ADM. The Lady Dutch improve to 4-1 overall.

Both Pella soccer teams take on Newton Tuesday, with the boys at home vs. the Cardinals and the girls hitting the road.
