The Knoxville Boys Golf Squad battled cold temperatures and Van Meter at the Winterset Golf Course on Tuesday, and defeated both as the Panthers scored a 167 to the Bulldogs’ 179 to take the dual meet. Evan Smith was medalist with a 39 while Jace Nichols and Beau Leisure tied for runner-up with a 42. Coach Barry Smith tells KNIA/KRLS Sports, one important thing he keeps reminding his guys to do is to forget about bad holes, something they are doing a pretty good job of so far.

Smith:
“No matter how you have to prepare for them, both boys and girls, we’ve been emphasizing, if you have a bad hole, forget about it. Everyone’s going to have a bad hole just forget about and move on.”

The boys are off for the remainder of the week. On the pitch last night, the Knoxville soccer squads had differing results. The girls on the strength of another shutout defeated Fairfield 2-0. Taylor Jones and Ava Van Donselaar scored for Knoxville, who improved to 3-3 on the season and host Indianola on Thursday. The boys fell to Des Moines Christian 4-2 at Ken Locke Stadium. After trailing 1-0 at the half, Colby Sandholdt scored a goal in the first 3:00 of the second half to tie the score at one before the Lions struck back with a goal 10:00 later. Knoxville evened it again on a shot by Luka DeJong off an assist from Emmett Schmidt to tie it at two, but two more tallies by Des Moines Christian in the final 11:00 sealed the match. Knoxville drops to 3-3 and will host Chariton on Friday.
