Pella Girls Soccer Team Falls in Penalty Kicks in Top Ten Showdown
Defense dominated the night, and the newly ranked 6th in 2A Lady Dutch offense never found its footing in a 1-0 varsity soccer loss to No. 4 North Polk that came down to penalty kicks after a pair of overtimes Thursday.
While the Lady Dutch held off several Comet chances on a busy night for goalkeeper Hailey Van Houweling, who kept the net clean with several tough saves, they could not string together enough offensive chances, and the Pella girls found the goalie on all three of their penalty kick tries after an extra 20 minutes following a 0-0 tie in regulation.
Pella drops to 5-2 overall and hosts Oskaloosa Tuesday at Pella High School.
