Strong and gusty southwest winds gusting up to 40 mph combined with very warm temperatures and low relative humidity will result in elevated to extreme fire danger this afternoon, according to the National Weather Service. The extreme fire conditions are expected across northern Iowa where green up is not as robust as farther south. Regardless, burning is not recommended across all of central Iowa today and should be delayed.
