The Pella City Council will discuss a request from the developer of the Bos Ridge project during Policy and Planning of their regular meeting Tuesday.

The developer is asking the City of Pella to assist with screening near the existing cart path on Hole 5 of the Bos Landen Golf Course. According to a City of Pella memo, the course was constructed over twenty years before the Bos Ridge development existed, so a cart path was located on undeveloped ground.

During the platting process for this development, a cart path encroachment on lot 20 was noted and an easement for the existing cart path was acquired during the platting process.

During the development process for Bos Ridge, the developer had intended to request the cart path be relocated so it did not encroach on Lot 20, however, City Administration notes this request was not addressed when the council approved the subdivision plat and the development agreement for Bos Ridge.

The developer would still like to have the cart path rerouted if possible; however, as an alternative approach, the developer is willing to simply plant bushes on the property for screening purposes. If council chooses this option, the developer would like to be reimbursed $1,600 for installing the necessary bushes to screen the cart path. In comparison, rerouting the cart path could range in costs between $20,000 to $40,000 based on the assumption the City of Pella would want to maintain the black tee box
on Hole 5, which is the desire of the Bos Landen grounds maintenance staff.

If this item was addressed during the development agreement for Bos Ridge, it is likely the developer would have been reimbursed for the cost of planting the necessary bushes to screen the cart path. City staff has discussed this issue with Mayor Don DeWaard, and recommend reimbursing the developer up to $1,600 for the cost of installing the necessary bushes.

The Pella City Council meeting begins at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the Pella Public Safety Complex, and can be viewed online here.
