Down three starters, the Pella Christian girls soccer team held on to a close match with Knoxville, winning 1-0 Monday at Ken Locke Stadium. Head Coach Mike Buchheit says P.C. earned its second shutout in three games, and third of the season, thanks in large part to the efforts of Goalkeeper Lydia Zylstra — who had a game-winning save in the 78th minute, and Karis Fikkert, who kept Knoxville Midfielder Taylor Jones in check. Joslyn Terpstra scored her 9th goal of the season in the 7th minute. Pella Christian improves to 4-4 overall and travels to Newton at 5:30 this evening.
In another close conference match, the No. 8 in 1A Pella Christian girls tennis team hung on to defeat Oskaloosa 6-5 Monday in a weather makeup dual. The Eagles earned wins in No. 1, 2, 4, and 5 singles from Megan Kramer, Kelly Van Wyk, Katy Roose, and Sydney Van Arendonk, with Kramer/Van Wyk and Tessa Breems and Mikayla Prendergast earning doubles wins to clinch the match. Pella Christian is 6-1 in dual matches and returns to the road at Grinnell Tuesday.
