The Iowa Legislature is still debating the budget for FY2022, despite the scheduled end date at the end of April. State Senator Julian Garrett tells KNIA News while the budget is the only item left that is required from the legislature, there are still other items on the table.

The budget is the big thing, but there are also discussions going on regarding tax cuts, shifting funding from property tax to the state for mental health funding and that would allow some property tax cuts. So there is a lot going on still. I don’t know if those things can be worked out or not, but we will have to have a budget.”
