The PCM summer sports had a tough start to the season Monday night. The baseball team traveled to Pella and fell 14-3. Softball was defeated 11-1, as they played host to Grinnell.
The baseball team had a solid first inning to start their season, jumping out to a 2-0 lead on Pella. The Dutch offense came alive in the second however, as the Dutch proceeded to run away with the contest. Pella scored five in the second and seven in the third before tacking on two more in the fourth. PCM was able to add 1 of their own in the fourth but ultimately fell 14-3 in 5 innings.
Softball found themselves tied with Grinnell at zeros following three innings of action, but Grinnell broke that tie with six runs in the fourth. Sophomore RaeAnn Duinink provided the Mustangs their lone run of the contest in the bottom of the 4th. From there Grinnell added five runs to defeat PCM 11-1 in seven innings.
The Mustangs will both return to action tonight as they play host to Nevada. The softball game is scheduled for 7:15 p.m., and the baseball game is set for 7:30 p.m.
