Women’s discus thrower Kennedy Morris and men’s long jumper Brock Lewis earned All-American status with their performances at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships Thursday. Lewis hit his best long jump mark of the day on his fifth attempt, reaching 23 feet, 3.5 inches. His sixth-place finish was only one off of his qualifying spot and landed him on the podium.
Needing an improved mark in her third and final preliminary throw to advance to the women’s discus throw finals, Morris reached 137-11.25 to pick up one of the nine spots in the finals. That throw ended up as her best effort and the senior ended her Central career with an eight-place finish and All-American accolades.
Gillian Streit was 10th in the discus throw with a toss of 136-6, narrowly missing a spot in the finals.
After day one of the heptathlon, Kiki Pingel is in 14th with 2,647 points. Her best two events of the day were the 200-meter dash (26.85 seconds) and 100-meter hurdles (15.13 seconds), placing 10th in the field of 19 in both events.
Teammate Mary Gray pulled out of the heptathlon with an injury after completing the first three events of the day.
Pingel will continue in the heptathlon Friday for Central. Additionally, Sam Beatty will contest the men’s high jump and Caleb Silver is in the men’s 3,000-meter steeplechase.
