The Knoxville Rotary Club held an essay contest for the Knoxville fifth grade class recently, and selected three finalists. Gabby Sparks, Lauren Cox, and Brynlee Brooks presented their essays at the recent May meeting. T. Waldmann-Williams with the group says the students wrote about Rotary International’s four-way test.
“It was interesting. This year, the three finalists wrote about bullying, they also talked about telling the truth in friendships. The question is ‘How can I use the four-way test in my life?’. It’s from a fifth-grader’s perspective, and I think that’s invaluable. These are not only future rotarians, these are individuals who, in the future, will be able to use the four-way test in their lives.”
The four-way test is a moral code for personal and business relationships. It includes the questions:
1. Is it the truth?
2. Is it fair to all concerned?
3. Will it build goodwill and better friendships?
4. Will it be beneficial to all concerned?
