The Indianola baseball team suffered their first loss of the season Thursday evening splitting a doubleheader at Ottumwa, falling in game one 5-4 in eight innings, and winning game two 4-3.
In game one, the Indians got ahead early 1-0, but saw Ottumwa take a 3-2 lead in the third inning and hold it through the fifth. The Indians came back to grab a 4-3 lead going into the bottom of the 7th, but with a runner on third and two outs, a dropped third strike allowed the run to score and force extras, where the Bulldogs got the walkoff win.
Game two had the Indians fall behind early 1-0, then score four runs in the third inning to take control. The Bulldogs had plenty of baserunners the rest of the contest but only plated two runs for the Indians to salvage a split. Head coach Jon Fitzpatrick tells KNIA Sports the Indians are still looking at the early part of the season as day-to-day and game-to-game, and they will continue to try and get better each day.
The Indians next play tonight on the road at Dallas Center-Grimes. The game can be heard live on 94.3 KNIA, with Andrew Swadner on the play-by-play. Pregame coverage begins at 7:15pm.
