Pella Christian came away with a split in Grinnell as the softball team came away with a 12-9 victory in extra innings, while the baseball team came up empty in a 6-1 loss as broadcast on 92.1 KRLS Friday night.

On the softball diamond, the Eagles were locked in a wild see-saw contest with No. 13 in 4A Grinnell, winning in the 8th inning by a 12-9 margin. Pella Christian fell behind 5-0 after the first inning, but worked back into the game gradually, including two Natalie Harrill home runs. The Eagles tied the game in the 5th with four runs, only to give up a pair heading into the 7th. Trinity Vos — who started the game giving up five runs in the 1st in the circle, had the game tying two-run single. The Eagles top of the order came through again as well, as Anna Bonnett and Alexa Dunsbergen each drove in runs in the 8th to win it.

The Eagles’ baseball squad fought valiantly with the Tigers, but it was not enough as Grinnell pulled away with a four-run sixth inning. Micah DeHaan pitched 5.1 innings and gave up four runs on nine hits while striking out a season-high ten batters. The only run for the Eagles came in the top of seventh when Corbin Westerkamp scored on a wild pitch after hitting a two-out double.

Pella Christian’s softball team improves to 6-3 overall and 1-2 in the conference, and play in the Oskaloosa tournament today. The Eagles’ baseball squad drops to 1-6 and will play in the Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont tournament today.
