The National Sprint Car Hall of Fame & Museum held its 30th induction banquet Saturday. This year’s inductees were Bill Cummings, Walt Dyer, Greg Hodnett, Don Lamberti, Paul Leffler, Spencer Riggs, Tim Shaffer and Jeff Swindell. Swindell has been considered an innovator in sprint car racing, creating seat mounting systems, engine timing systems, and seat belt systems. He says he’s lucky to have found that opportunity to contribute to the sprint car racing world.
“It’s behind the scenes kinds of things that people don’t know about. That’s when I decided that’s what I needed to be doing. I just wish I had thought of making parts 20 years ago instead of racing for a living. Once you know you’re not going to NASCAR, Indy, those kinds of things, you have to start making a living elsewhere. We’ve been very blessed with that, I have a great family that has supported me through the whole thing. I’m a very lucky person to have done what I’ve done.”
