indianola-3

It was a successful road trip in Little Hawkeye Conference play for the Indianola summer squads, with the Indians baseball team taking down Oskaloosa 11-1 in just five innings, while the softball squad won 8-0 in a game heard live on 94.3 KNIA.

Bennett Brueck had a three hit night for the Indianola baseball squad as they scored early and often, as Noah Johnston went 2-2 with a double, a home run, and driving in five, with Jack Strong also going 2-2 with a walk at the plate. Connor Howard picked up the win on the mound, with Brueck also contributing in relief. The Indians improve to 10-4 on the season, and make the road trip to Newton tomorrow for a conference doubleheader.

Kate Kralik struck out 13 in a two-hit gem in the pitching circle for the #4 Indianola softball team, allowing only one ball to reach the outfield all game and only getting into one three-ball count against a potent Osky offense. The Indians scored three in the first with a two RBI double from Destiny Lewis and a sacrifice fly from Macie Mays, then added another three in the third with a two-run no doubter by Lewis and an RBI double from Mara Bishop.

Indianola added two more in the fifth with smart base running from Sadie Fredericks and an RBI single from Izzy Sloan. Head coach Stacy Evans tells KNIA Sports the pregame work from Kralik set her apart tonight.

“We just met as a coaching staff, and she did it in 89 pitches which is pretty doggone efficient. She did her work tonight, and she did her homework too. She studied these batters, she went to her staff and they talked about what their game plan was before we even started hitting practice. Great job to Kate tonight, her and Bish (catcher Mara Bishop) really had a fantastic night.”

Indianola improves to 11-3 on the season, and matches up with Ottumwa in a doubleheader tonight at 5:30pm on their home field.
