Ashlyn Finarty and Ciara Heffron combined for a three hit shutout and the Knoxville Softball Squad took down Clarke 1-0 on Friday night. The game was scoreless until the top of the 7th when Hannah Dunkin scored on a throwing error and Knoxville was able to keep Clarke off the board in the bottom of the 7th. Finarty started and went three innings allowing two hits and four strikeouts. Heffron got the win, allowing just one hit in four innings and striking six and walking none. Knoxville is now 9-4 on the season and 2-3 in the South Central Conference. The Panthers journey to Creston today to play Earlham, Mount Ayr, and Dallas Center-Grimes. Meanwhile, next door to the softball facility in Osceola, the Knoxville baseball Squad struggled once again in the early innings and fell to the Indians 11-4. Clarke put up five runs in the 2nd inning and never trailed after that. Trenten Kingrey took the loss as he surrendered five runs on three hits over 1 1/3 innings, striking out one. Mike Hudson and Carson Uitermarkt entered the game as relief, throwing three innings and 1 2/3 innings respectively. Jaxon Zuck went 2/3 at the plate and two RBI. Knoxville falls to 4-10 on the season and 2-6 in the South Central Conference. The Panthers will take on Chariton in a double header on Monday.
