fatal

The drivers involved in a fatal crash involving two cars and a motorcycle north of Knoxville have been identified by the Iowa State Patrol.

Lloyd Hedrick, 74, and Lisa Wilmes, 60, both of Indianola, died due to injuries suffered in a collision that occurred just before 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Highway 14 and County Highway G44 intersection.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, a white Chevorlet Cruze driven by 40-year-old Jonathan Slover of Burlington was stopped and waiting to turn west into a driveway in the northbound lane. A black Chevolet Impala was also heading northbound, operated by Alli Souhrada, 27, of Allison, Iowa, and investigators report that she did not see the stopped vehicle and rear-ended it. A motorcycle driven by Hedrick was traveling southbound near the intersection of Highway 14 and G44 at the time, and could not stop before hitting the northbound Chevy cars now pushed into the other lane. Hedrick and his passenger Wilmes were both pronounced dead at Knoxville Hospital and Clinics shortly after the incident. The pair were participating in a memorial motorcycle ride. Aaron Ferch, 37, of Kirkwood, Illinois, was in the front vehicle that was rear-ended, and transported to Pella Regional Health Center with non-life threatening injuries.

The Marion County Sheriff’s Office and Iowa State Patrol are handling the investigation, and any charges stemming from the crash could take several days as additional details emerge. Responding agencies included the Knoxville Police Department, Jasper County Sheriff’s Office, Pella Police Department, Monroe Ambulance, Iowa DNR, Iowa DOT, Knoxville Fire and Rescue, and the Knoxville Township Rural Fire Department.

The road was blocked for three hours, according to the Iowa DOT.
