PCM’s summer teams hosted Saydel Thursday and were swept by the Eagles with softball losing 9-0 and baseball falling 7-1.
On the softball field, PCM couldn’t find a rhythm at the plate tonight as Saydel kept them out of the hit column. Riley Johannes was the lone baserunner for the Mustangs, drawing a walk. After their first meeting earlier this season, Head Coach Shaun Hudnut knew that defeating Saydel would be a tough task. The loss drops PCM to third place in the Heart of Iowa Conference standings with a 6-2 record. The Mustangs are 9-10 overall on the season.
The PCM baseball team also struggled to get themselves on the scoreboard against the Eagles. The Mustangs were limited to just a single run, that was batted in from Caleb Duinink en route to just their second loss in conference play. Sage Burns had a pair of hits, while Beau Webb took the loss on the mound. PCM is now 5-2 against Heart of Iowa conference opponents and 5-6 overall in 2021.
The PCM baseball team hits the road tonight for a matchup with Albia at 7 p.m., while the softball team remains at home for a game with Collins-Maxwell at 7:30 p.m.
