The Warren County GOP held a town hall forum Thursday evening, discussing the City of Indianola and other local organizations and businesses’ support of the 21 Day Equity Challenge. The 21 Day Equity Challenge is a program that will take place from October 5th through November 2nd, with the intention of developing a deeper understanding of how inequity and racism affect our lives and our community. The town hall meeting was moderated by Tamara Scott with a presentation by author Dr. Stephen Kirby, who argued, among other items, that there is no systemic racism in the United States.
“It’s purpose is to not recognize progress. Its purpose is to claim there is systemic racism without ever having to prove it. The mere fact that you claim systemic racism, and as we saw looking at the definitions, if a white person denies the systemic racism, they are exhibiting their white fragility.”
Warren County GOP representatives added that members should discuss the issue with local elected officials. Approximately 70 people attended the event.
