The Knoxville Softball Squad kept its hot bats on fire during a sizzling night in a 6-1 victory over Pella Christian and heard on 95.3 KNIA. The Eagles actually struck first in the opening frame when Anna Bonnett grounded out but got an RBI when Bailey Roose scored. That would prove to be the lone tally for the Eagles as Knoxville would put three on the board, two courtesy of Brittany Bacorn’s two R-B-I double to straight away center field in the 3rd inning. The Panthers would add another run in the 4th and a couple of insurance runs in the 6th. Knoxville was able to slow any momentum Pella Christian had when the Eagles got runners on base including a caught stealing in the 6th following a throwing error.
Panthers Coach Carla Smith told KNIA/KRLS Sports her team was playing heads up defense in that situation.
For Pella Christian, the Eagles got runners on base, but could not seem to get the key hit to get them home, something Coach Karen Harrill said was key in her team’s loss.
Ashlyn Finarty pitched a brilliant game allowing one run on four hits, no walks and three strikeouts while Alexa Dunsbergen took the loss going the distance allowing six runs on ten hits, one walk and no strikeouts. Knoxville is now 13-6 on the season and will stay on Panther Drive hosting Davis County tonight. Pella Christian now 10-11 and is off until Monday when the Eagles host Grinnell in the double header.
