A lack of affordable childcare is preventing some Iowa parents from returning to work, as it can cost more money to pay for childcare than the wages cover. Congresswoman Cindy Axne tells KNIA News she and President Biden are in agreement that affordable childcare is a part of infrastructure.
“You can’t get to work without childcare. Eventually a bridge can get fixed or you can take another road around if the bridge is down to get to work, but you can’t do that if you don’t have childcare. So I’m pushing for support for our childcare industry, it’s workers, and the people who are doing a great job providing childcare, pushing for universal pre-K for three and four year olds, and all-day kindergarten.”
