Indianola Parks and Rec held their June Tunes and Treats concert last week, inviting local musician Andrew Hoyt to perform at the Indianola Activity Center for nearly 80 people. Organizer Becky Lane tells KNIA News the events have grown over the years, and are now an expected part of the Indianola Parks and Rec activities.
“The whole idea of the Tunes and Treats started a couple years ago, the Des Moines Musicians Association has access to grant money with the sole intent to bring music to senior citizens who might not otherwise have that opportunity. So the first concert was funded through their grant, and it was such a success that we figured we needed to keep it going. They usually sponsor one or two concerts a year, but we’ve partnered with local sponsors so we can have additional events. Our goal is to have two or three concerts a quarter, and so far we’ve been lucky enough except for covid to be able to do that. So we’ve been lucky about that.”
The next Tunes and Treats concert series will be on July 20th featuring jazz musicians Wayne Page and Nick Rueckert.
