With directives being worked on by the NCAA and various state legislatures across the country allowing college athletes to earn money off of their to profit off their name, image and likeness, the Division-III level of college athletics will not be unaffected by the upcoming changes. Simpson Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach and Compliance Officer Brandon Stromer tells KNIA News a lot is up in the air right now as the NCAA tries to work issues out and the changes that could be made.

“It’s definitely an interesting time to be in the world of athletics and have your eye on college athletics and the NCAA. I think this was going to be on our doorstep even before COVID, so this time last year had COVID not happened this would have been something we would deal with, they put it on the backburner for the last 12-15 months. I think it’s just a matter of time before the NCAA will separate itself from the economics part of trying to control the athletes and their income. It will be interesting to see what happens.”

Coach Stromer also said the most important part for schools, athletes, and their potential business opportunities if the NCAA allows it will be communication, and the last thing any school wants to see is a student-athlete harm their eligibility through something that is not allowed.
