Counting down the top 10 sports stories of the year for Indianola High School with #9. The Indianola girls swimming team is a conglomerate of not only Indianola residents but swimmers from Knoxville, Winterset, and Southeast Warren among others. With the fall sports season up in the air and not much offseason work due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it was not only a question of how well they could compete but would they be able to compete at all. Despite the difficulties, the Indians girls swimmers qualified a pair of events to state, the quartet of Olivia Bacon, Kodi Cram, Kinsli Cram, and Jorja Culver in the 400 freestyle relay, and the 200 freestyle relay with the foursome of Kinsli Cram, Kodi Cram, OIivia Ramaeker, and Jorja Culver.
Olivia Bacon said after qualifying to state, what helped the Indians this past fall was taking advantage of not knowing if the season would go on.
“I definitely think we all worked really hard to get where we are today, especially with covid and not being able to get into the pool as early as we did last year. I think we deserve to go to state, and it’s pretty awesome we all get to go to state together.”
The Indians finished 28th in the 200 Freestyle Relay and 27th in the 400 Freestyle Relay.
