The #9 sports story of the year for Norwalk was the girls soccer team appearing in its third state tournament in four seasons, and winning its first state tournament game since 2007. Norwalk earned the #3 seed in the tournament, and defeated North Scott in the quarterfinals 3-2 at the Cownie Sports Complex in Des Moines.
Norwalk scored on a Reagan Teut goal within the first 10 minutes to get the scoring underway, but the teams went to the half tied at 1 after the Lancers got an answer later on. Anna Larson scored early in the second half for a 2-1 lead, which was again answered by North Scott with a goal of their own a few minutes later. JoJo Bice scored the winning goal on a free kick midway through the second half. Head Coach Andrew Messer was proud of his team’s performance in a back-and-forth battle.
Norwalk advanced to the semifinals, but fell to Little Hawkeye Conference foe Dallas Center-Grimes 1-0. Norwalk ended the season 16-3 overall.
