The #9 sports story of the 2020-2021 school year at Central was when two Dutch cross country runners earned all-conference honors at the American Rivers Conference Championships on Central’s home course on November 7th.

Capping a promising freshman season, Pella native freshman Caroline McMartin gained all-conference distinction with a 15th-place effort. Competing on her home course, McMartin posted a 6,000-meter time of 23:57.23 and was Central’s top runner for the third straight outing. But Central slipped to seventh place in the nine-team meet with 180 points. McMartin said afterward she achieved her goal coming into the race, and credits the coaching staff for her success.

Junior Will DeHaan placed 11th in 26:31.51 in the men’s race to earn all-conference honors. He says he overcame a major hurdle after a battle with COVID-19.

The Dutch were fifth in the team standings in the final meet of the modified season slate.
