Melcher-Dallas’ countdown of the top ten stories of the 2020-21 school year continues to the hardwood as the girls’ basketball squad had one of their highest finishes in the Bluegrass Conference tournament.
The Saints came into the tournament with a 6-3 record, winning their last two games against Mormon Trail and Moravia. The tournament got off to a roaring start, knocking off Seymour 57-33 thanks to a 15-point, 11-rebound double-double from Hailey Hoch. Melcher-Dallas outrebounded Seymour 56-23. The semifinals saw the Saints knock off Murray for the third time this season, beating them 37-33. Haley Godfrey led the way with ten points and three three-pointers in the win. Grace Overgaard had seven points and 14 rebounds to help carry the Saints.
In the championship game, Melcher-Dallas was upended by Moravia, 41-25, finishing second place in the Bluegrass Conference tournament. Coach Kelsey Goff marveled at the team’s persistence and resilience throughout the season.
Goff’s Saints finished the season with an 8-11 record, including a 4-5 record in regular season Bluegrass Conference play in 2020-21.
