Counting down the top 10 sports stories of the year for Simpson College with #5. The Simpson Storm men’s track and field team had a 6th place showing at the American Rivers Conference meet this past spring, however they had several standout performers receive top places. The duo of Ryan Courtney and Spencer Moon captured all-conference accolades with a top-three placing in their respective events. Courtney ran the second-fastest time in school history in the 3,000-meter steeplechase to grab a runner-up finish with a time of 9:22.84. Moon trimmed 38 seconds off a previous best to cross the finish in 31.26.07 in the 10,000 meters for third place, which stands as the fifth-fastest mark in team history. Craig Garrison sprinted to third in the 200 meters with a time of 22.00 seconds in the finals, and Mason Spree had a distance of 51.86 meters to increase his school record in the hammer throw to also finish in second.
