pleasantville-3

Continuing the countdown of the top ten stories of the 2020-21 school year for Pleasantville goes to the wrestling mats for the first state qualifiers to appear on the list.

The Trojans’ wrestling squad had two wrestlers qualify for state. The first was at 285 pounds, Matthew Kauffman. Kauffman qualified for his fourth consecutive state appearance in his four years at Pleasantville. Kauffman also eclipsed the 100-win mark during his final season. After Kauffman lost his first match, he bounced back and won his next three matches, en route to a sixth-place finish, losing the fifth-place game to Mitchel Marr of Riceville.

The second state qualifier was a first-time state-qualifier named Kitt Lundy at 132 pounds. After Lundy barely missed qualifying the previous year, he bounced back and finished second in his district behind Reuben Smith of Interstate-35. Lundy finished 0-2 in the tournament, losing both of his matches.

With Lundy coming back for one final season, he will be looking to advance even more in the state tournament and to make his mark on the state scene.
