The #4 sports story of the school year at Central was when two Dutch athletes earned All-America status at the National Track & Field Championships in Greensboro, North Carolina.

Women’s discus thrower Kennedy Morris and men’s long jumper Brock Lewis earned that recognition with their performances. Lewis hit his best long jump mark of the day on his fifth attempt, reaching 23 feet, 3.5 inches. His sixth-place finish was only one off of his qualifying spot and landed him on the podium. Sturman says they led a balanced, all-around team effort.

Needing an improved mark in her third and final preliminary throw to advance to the women’s discus throw finals, Morris reached 137-11.25 to pick up one of the nine spots in the finals. That throw ended up as her best effort and the senior ended her Central career with an eighth-place finish and All-American accolades.

Gillian Streit was 10th in the discus throw with a toss of 136-6, narrowly missing a spot in the finals.

Kiki Pingel wrapped up the women’s heptathlon with 4,534 points and an 11th place finish. She ended her career with a new personal-best time in the 800-meter run, crossing the line in 2 minutes, 22.46 seconds.

In his national meet debut, Sam Beatty finished in a tie for 13th place in the men’s high jump, clearing the bar at 6 feet, 3.5 inches. He cleared the opening height in one jump but then missed three straight attempts at 6-5.5.

Also making his first appearance on the national scene, Caleb Silver finished the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 9 minutes, 38.12 in seconds to place 12th.

The men tied for 62nd and the women tied for 64th.
