Central women’s soccer junior forward Jacie Borman has been in Costa Rica for the last eight days with Beyond Sports on a competitive tour of the country with a team of other American collegiate players.
The team is made up of American college students and is chosen based on statistical leaders and all-conference recognition as well as coaches’ recommendations. The vast majority of the roster is typically from NCAA Division III programs. Over the last 11 years, Beyond Sports has provided international sports tours for thousands of college athletes from over 350 different universities.
The eight-day experience started on July 22 and ended Friday, July 30. The American team was scheduled for three games in different parts of Costa Rica. Sightseeing excursions for the trip included the Baldi Hot Springs, Tarcoles River and a guided tour of the Costa Rican capital city of San Jose. Additionally, the American players will help at two service learning clinics coaching local youth.
In her first two seasons with the Dutch, Borman has started 21 of the team’s 24 games. She has assisted on 10 goals and attempted 31 shots. She’s won a pair of varsity letters and earned American Rivers Conference All-Academic recognition twice.
Borman is the third Dutch player to go on the trip to Costa Rica in the last three years, following 2020 graduate Erin Manion and 2019 graduate Olivia Stoops journey in May of 2019.
The director of soccer programs for the tour is Silvia Betancourt, a former member of the Costa Rican women’s national team.
